Happy ColumbusDay! Silly, Dr. Jean! I do know Columbus Day isn’t until October12th. However, I also knowthat teachers need ideas early in order to integrate them into their lessonplans ahead of time.

Sailor Hats- Make sailor hats outof newspaper. Fold in half. Bring corners down until theymeet. Fold up top edge and thenturn over and fold up the bottom edge. Let children decorate.
Globe – Point out where Columbus started in Spainand the islands he visited. Howhas travel changed since Columbus’s voyage over 500 years ago?
Travel Chest– Fold a brown sheet of paper in half and decorate the front to look like asailor’s chest. “If you were asailor going on a voyage that would last for many years what wouldyou pack in your chest?” Childrencan draw pictures and label what they would need.
